Pitt & CMU Fall 2019 Student Arrival, Street Closures & Parking Restrictions in Oakland August 18-25

Several Oakland Streets will be closed August 18-25 due to University of Pittsburgh & CMU Student Arrival

 

Three Oakland streets adjacent to Carnegie Mellon University will be closed to through traffic from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, as first-year students move into their residence halls for orientation. CMU’s weeklong orientation program aims to help incoming students learn about each other, campus life and the local community.

 

Affected areas are:

  • 5100 block of Margaret Morrison St. between Forbes Ave. & Tech St.
  • 100 block of Tech St. between Margaret Morrison St. & Schenley Dr.
  • 1000 block of Morewood Ave. between Fifth Ave. and Forbes Ave.

 

In addition to those areas, the 4700 block of Fifth Ave. is expected to be very congested. It is recommended that motorists avoid this area if possible.

The University of Pittsburgh is advising that a number of Oakland streets will be closed beginning August 18, 2019 thru August 25, 2019. Parking restrictions will also in place, impacting approximately 450 metered parking spaces.

  • Closed Sunday, 8/18 through Friday, August 23

 

Lothrop Street (Fifth to Victoria)

Additionally, PWSA Work will close intersection at N Craig St. & Bayard St. in North Oakland from August 19 to September 6

 

A PWSA contractor will be working to repair a broken sewer main located within theintersection of Bayard Street and N. Craig Street. Work begins Monday, August 19 until Friday, September 6, occurring Monday-Friday from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The intersection will reopen each night at 5:00 p.m. and will remain open on the weekends.

 

The intersection of North Craig Street at Bayard Street will be closed to all traffic during working hours and will be reopened to traffic at the end of the day. Detour signs will be one block back from the intersection in each direction. The Port Authority has rerouted buses during these disrupted times. The sidewalks around the intersection will likely not be affected. Water service will be maintained to all customers at all times during the work.
